Meet Siena
Siena believes that one of the most important parts of tutoring is helping students recognize that they are capable of learning—even when a subject initially feels difficult.
She enjoys giving students space to explain their thinking because it helps her understand how they approach a problem and where their confusion begins. Her favourite part of tutoring is seeing a student finally understand a concept they have been struggling with.
What Sessions with Siena Are Like
Siena begins by talking with the student and asking them to explain how they would approach the material. She uses their response to identify the specific learning gap and determine which type of support will be most effective.
From there, Siena reteaches the concept with a different explanation, emphasizing the part that caused difficulty. She then asks the student to explain the idea back to her before moving into guided practice.
If a student becomes frustrated or overwhelmed, Siena may simplify the explanation or change activities if needed. She also enjoys incorporating students’ interests into sessions to make the material more engaging and relatable.
Education & Experience
Siena is completing a degree in Elementary Education at the University of Calgary and plans to become an elementary school teacher.
Beyond Tutoring
Outside of university and tutoring, Siena enjoys reading, crocheting and baking. She has a six-year-old Goldendoodle and especially loves mathematics.
A fun fact about Siena is that she was a trapeze artist at a circus studio during high school!
