Meet Julia
Julia enjoys working with young people and feels privileged to use her education and experience to support students in their own academic journeys. She understands that students are more willing to approach difficult material when their concerns are taken seriously and they feel supported in asking questions.
With strong backgrounds in biology and academic writing, Julia can help students understand scientific concepts, strengthen written assignments and develop greater confidence in the classroom.
What Sessions with Julia Are Like
Julia begins by listening to the student’s concerns and identifying the skills they already use successfully. She then breaks challenging material into more manageable pieces and builds from those existing strengths.
If a concept does not make sense, Julia reframes the question or changes her explanation rather than repeating the same approach. She may also move to another task and revisit the difficult material later to avoid frustration and protect the student’s confidence.
Julia has personal and mentoring experience supporting neurodiverse youth. She understands the value of patience, flexibility, engaging tools and adapting the learning environment to the individual student.
Education & Experience
Julia completed a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Psychology at the University of Alberta in 2024. She is currently completing her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Calgary and expects to graduate in 2029.
Her academic experience includes scientific publications, extensive formal writing and the preparation of competitive applications. Julia also volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada, where she mentored a Grade 8 student academically while supporting their confidence and interpersonal development.
Beyond Tutoring
Julia has a younger brother with autism, which has given her additional insight into neurodiversity and the importance of finding approaches that work for the individual learner. She values helping students develop practical tools they can eventually use independently, both academically and beyond the classroom.
