Meet Gabriel
Gabriel enjoys helping students understand and appreciate subjects that may initially feel confusing. He believes that students can engage more confidently with math and physics once the individual steps begin to make sense.
His approach focuses on building strong understanding rather than simply memorizing a procedure. Gabriel encourages students to explain their reasoning, consider different approaches and understand why a method works.
What Sessions with Gabriel Are Like
Gabriel begins by discussing what the student is learning and which parts feel challenging. If the source of the difficulty is unclear, he asks the student to work through a problem aloud so he can identify where their understanding begins to break down.
From there, Gabriel breaks the problem into smaller steps and uses guiding questions to help the student rethink their approach without immediately giving away the answer. When needed, he models an example and explains his reasoning before moving into gradually more challenging practice.
Gabriel adapts sessions to the student’s goals. This may mean rebuilding essential skills and strategies for earning partial marks or extending a strong student’s knowledge through more varied and challenging problems.
Education & Experience
Gabriel is completing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia Okanagan. After graduating, he plans to work in engineering and hopes to eventually start a business.
Gabriel brings significant peer-support and student-leadership experience. He spent four years living in a boarding-school environment, where he regularly acted as a role model for younger students. During his final two years of high school, he also held a leadership position supporting students who were struggling to meet school expectations.
Beyond Tutoring
Outside of university and tutoring, Gabriel enjoys weightlifting, running, carpentry and creating electronics. He grew up in Saudi Arabia and has had four cats.
Gabriel also enjoys taking on unfamiliar challenges. During his first professional restaurant job, he quickly progressed from learning the kitchen to independently opening, closing and preparing meals for full shifts.
