Meet Travis
Travis loves seeing the “aha!” moment when a student finally understands challenging material. With five years of teaching experience, including extensive work in an online-school environment, he is comfortable helping students navigate difficult questions, assessments and course concepts.
Travis values making tutoring time efficient and meaningful by focusing on the student’s specific needs rather than reteaching material they already understand.
What Sessions with Travis Are Like
Travis begins by identifying the area causing difficulty and asks the student to explain their thinking as they work through a problem. This allows him to recognize what the student understands, locate where errors are occurring and provide targeted instruction.
His sessions may incorporate colour coding, highlighting, virtual whiteboards, polls, interactive games and guided “we do” practice. Travis has experience supporting students with ADHD and dyslexia and uses a variety of visual and interactive strategies to maintain engagement.
Education & Experience
Travis completed a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education through Mount Royal University and St. Mary’s University. He has been teaching for five years and currently works as an online-school teacher, regularly supporting students through individual drop-in and Zoom sessions.
His leadership and subject knowledge have also led to him being selected as a Math and Science Team Lead.
Beyond Tutoring
Travis was born in South Africa. Outside of teaching, he enjoys reading, training, swimming and developing his digital-art skills.
