Meet Shayla
Shayla understands how much the right explanation, and the right tutor can change a student’s experience at school. She enjoys helping students move beyond feeling stuck and begin approaching challenging material with greater understanding and confidence.
As both a tutor and the founder of Foothills Tutoring, Shayla is committed to providing meaningful, individualized instruction rather than simply helping students complete their homework.
What Sessions with Shayla Are Like
Shayla begins by identifying what the student understands and where the confusion begins. She then breaks challenging concepts into clear, manageable steps and works through examples before giving the student opportunities to practise more independently.
Sessions may focus on rebuilding foundational knowledge, learning current course material or preparing for an upcoming assessment. Shayla aims to help students understand why a method works so they can apply it confidently to unfamiliar questions.
Education & Experience
Shayla is a certified educator and previously taught with Foothills School Division. Her teaching and tutoring experience has given her a strong understanding of Alberta high school math and chemistry curriculum, assessment expectations and the areas students commonly find challenging.
She founded Foothills Tutoring to help local families access personalized academic support. Today, she leads a growing team of more than 20 academic tutors and certified educators supporting students throughout Okotoks, High River and across Alberta online.
Beyond Tutoring
Outside of teaching and running Foothills Tutoring, Shayla enjoys camping, hiking, paddleboarding, travelling and staying active. She especially loves spending time outdoors with her husband, their two children and their dogs.
