Meet Sam
Sam loves helping students become more confident and resilient learners. He finds it especially rewarding to see students who have experienced frustration with reading or writing begin to understand their abilities and take pride in their work.
Throughout his teaching career, Sam has worked hard to develop resources, supports and relationships that help students take their writing to the next level.
What Sessions with Sam Are Like
Sam provides targeted support based on the student’s current course, assignments and writing goals. Sessions may focus on developing ideas, organizing essays, strengthening analysis, improving grammar or revising a piece of writing for greater clarity.
He guides students through the writing process with clear instruction and constructive feedback, helping them understand both what needs improvement and how to improve it. Sam can also support students preparing for Alberta English diploma exams.
Education & Experience
Sam studied English and education at Mount Royal University and the University of Lethbridge. He brings eight years of teaching experience, along with four years of tutoring experience from his time in university.
His professional experience includes working as a grammar instructor, English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, English tutor, and Alberta Education diploma-exam marker and group leader.
Beyond Tutoring
Outside of teaching and tutoring, Sam enjoys reading and swimming. He also has what he describes as a fairly ridiculous nervous laugh, which he has learned to embrace!
