Meet Maya

Maya enjoys helping students broaden their perspectives and connect with topics that initially feel abstract or uninteresting. She believes students understand literature and history more deeply when they can relate the material to their own experiences, interests and ways of thinking.

Maya brings classroom practicum experience and a strong academic background in both English and Social Studies.

What Sessions with Maya Are Like

Maya begins by learning about the student and identifying whether they need a different explanation, format or perspective. She then adapts the session using the approach that best suits the student.

Sessions may include visual and auditory supports, movement-based activities and creative connections to the student’s own language and experiences.

Education & Experience

Maya is completing a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Social Studies at the University of Calgary. She plans to become a high school Social Studies teacher.

In 2025, Maya received the James H. Gray Writing Scholarship for a senior-level history research paper. Her experience also includes classroom practicums and two seasons as a head coach for girls’ club volleyball.

Beyond Tutoring

Outside of university and teaching, Maya enjoys playing piano, painting, trying new restaurants and going to the gym. After breaking her hand playing volleyball, she now has four screws in it!
