Meet Barbra
Barbara especially enjoys the humanities and likes helping students understand how Social Studies connects to the systems and events they encounter in everyday life.
With three years of tutoring experience, she has seen how making coursework feel relevant can change a student’s understanding. Barbara once supported a Grade 12 student who was struggling in Social Studies 30 by connecting course topics to current events. Over the following months, his understanding and grades steadily improved.
What Sessions with Barbra Are Like
Barbara begins by reviewing the student’s current coursework and asking them to attempt a few questions independently. This helps her identify whether they need support with terminology, historical context, political cartoons, written responses or another specific skill.
She incorporates current events and the student’s personal interests to make abstract concepts easier to understand. Barbara also has experience supporting students with ADHD and autism and adapts her explanations and examples to the individual learner.
Education & Experience
Barbara is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Calgary and is interested in continuing into a Bachelor of Education. She has three years of tutoring experience in English and Social Studies.
Barbara was selected to work at the G7 Summit and earned a place on the Dean’s List during the same year. She also volunteers at events with the Okotoks Legion.
Beyond Tutoring
Barbara completed her first year of university in Ottawa. Outside of school and tutoring, she is an enthusiastic reader and an even bigger hockey fan!
