Meet Ishraj
Ishraj enjoys helping students move from feeling stuck or frustrated to explaining a concept confidently in their own words. His calm, easygoing approach gives students space to ask questions and work through difficult material without feeling rushed.
With a strong background in biology and chemistry, Ishraj is especially well suited to junior high and high school students. He can also support students with physics, mathematics, study skills and organization.
What Sessions with Ishraj Are Like
Ishraj begins by asking students what feels comfortable and where they are experiencing difficulty. He may have them explain a concept or attempt a few problems so he can identify gaps without making the process feel like a test.
From there, he breaks challenging material into smaller pieces and uses guided practice, diagrams, real-world examples, summary notes and practice quizzes. If one explanation does not connect, he changes his approach and encourages students to explain the idea back to him before moving forward.
Education & Experience
Ishraj completed a degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary and hopes to pursue a career in medicine. He also completed an honours research project in the Dunfield Lab, where he developed persistence and problem-solving skills while working through experiments and complex data.
Ishraj has several years of mentoring and instructional experience. He mentored an immigrant teenager through the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association and taught younger cadets as a Level Training Officer with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets.
Beyond Tutoring
Outside of tutoring, Ishraj enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, golf, hockey and following financial markets. He has travelled to every continent except Antarctica and has a Havanese named Diego, who is convinced that the house belongs to him.
