Meet Cristina
Cristina loves seeing the “aha!” moment when a difficult concept finally clicks. She finds it rewarding to watch students become more confident and aims to make learning feel less stressful and more empowering.
Cristina takes time to understand how each student thinks and learns. She then finds strategies that connect the material to their strengths, interests and personal experiences.
What Sessions with Cristina Are Like
Cristina uses a “See, Hear, Do” approach that combines visual examples, verbal explanations and opportunities for students to demonstrate their learning. She may also use modelling and guided practice before supporting students in completing a task independently.
Sessions are interactive and may incorporate games, Kahoot, Quizlet, Jeopardy or open-ended discussion. Cristina also uses structured strategies such as PEAL/PETAL paragraphs and the “quote sandwich” to help students organize their writing. Her goal is to make sessions both productive and enjoyable.
Education & Experience
Cristina is completing a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Social Studies at the University of Calgary. She has two years of tutoring experience with Stars for Scholarly Youth, a nonprofit organization.
Cristina was the 2024 salutatorian of Notre Dame Collegiate and currently serves in leadership roles with the University of Calgary’s Education Students’ Association and the ATA Early Childhood Education Specialist Council. Her future interests include teaching, educational leadership and educational law.
Beyond Tutoring
Cristina enjoys weightlifting, basketball, trying new sports, photography and reading. She can also solve a Rubik’s Cube in just 30 seconds!
